Software Engineer & Full-Stack Developer
I'm Nick Adams, a software engineer based in Boise, Idaho. I build, modernize, and maintain web applications, APIs, cloud services, and the infrastructure that supports them.
I've spent more than eight years working across the stack, from Java and Spring Boot services to Laravel applications, Vue interfaces, AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
A lot of the work I enjoy most involves taking something complicated, outdated, or difficult to maintain and making it better.
What I Do
My professional experience spans software engineering, web development, cloud infrastructure, automation, and technical leadership.
I've
- Rebuilt search infrastructure and applications serving Idaho.gov.
- Helped migrate functionality from legacy Grails applications into Spring Boot services.
- Built REST APIs and replaced legacy SOAP integrations.
- Designed AWS infrastructure using Terraform, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and SES.
- Built internal developer tools and automation for deployment, maintenance, and testing workflows.
- Developed full-stack applications using Java, PHP/Laravel, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.
- Overtaken SAAS applications and improved their performance, security, and maintainability.
- Led and mentored web developers while helping improve engineering and delivery processes.
- Worked extensively with accessibility and WCAG requirements for public-facing applications.
I especially enjoy work involving application modernization, developer tooling, APIs, automation, and systems that solve real operational problems.
Outside of Work
Software development is also something I do because I genuinely enjoy it.
I'm usually working on a personal project, experimenting with a technology I haven't used before, contributing to open-source software, or finding a problem to automate.
When I'm away from a computer, I spend my time with family, camping, off-roading, playing guitar, chess, and video games.
